Who is FOIMan?

My name is Paul Gibbons. And I am FOIMan.

I’ve worked in information management for 26 years including periods working in the Houses of Parliament, Greater London Authority and as an independent consultant and trainer. I currently work for the Pension Protection Fund advising on FOI and data protection issues. In 2010 I started writing the FOIMan blog providing a new perspective on freedom of information issues – from the inside of a public authority. In 2019, my book, The Freedom of Information Officer’s Handbook, was published by Facet Publishing. Please note the following:

  • I am not a lawyer, so nothing here should be interpreted as legal advice.
  • This blog (as with my other social media accounts) reflects my own opinions and not those of my employer.
  • I provide lots of (hopefully) helpful resources here on the FOIMan website, but I can’t enter into correspondence about individual cases.
